Tattoo Care & Healing
Here at Deja Vu Tattoo we strive to give you the best that tattooing has to offer. Our staff has blood-borne pathogen and cross-contamination prevention training. It is our job to ensure that your tattoo has been applied in a clean environment using the most up to date sterile techniques. We practice universal safety precautions and use single service equipment.
Our job to provide you with a good looking tattoo is now over. It is now your job to heal your tattoo and it is your responsibility to ensure a good heal. Your artist will not touch you up for free, especially if he thinks you didn't respect the healing procedure. We cannot stress this enough. There is no reason a properly cared for tattoo should have any problem healing. Your new tattoo is basically an open wound and will take about 10 to 14 days to heal. Until then, please treat it like one. Especially, do not in any way contaminate your new tattoo. This means wash your hands before applying lotion, and never let anyone else touch or breathe on your new tattoo. Follow your artist's instructions and you should have no problem.
Remove your bandage after about an hour.
Always remember to wash your hands before and after cleaning or applying lotion to your new tattoo.
Clean your tattoo with Dial antibacterial soap and warm water, making lather on your fingertips until you have removed all blood and secretions. This is important as any secretions left behind will form a scab. If you don't scab, you'll heal more quickly.
Your tattoo will visibly dry out and will start peeling. We recommend that you apply a thin coat of Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Blot with a paper towel to remove any excess. (After a shower, wait 20 minutes before applying Aquaphor.)
Once the peeling stage begins, your tattoo may begin to itch. Itching is a sign of healing. Please don't scratch or pick at your tattoo. If your tattoo develops scabs, please leave them alone; They will fall off by themselves. To relieve the itchiness, lightly slap or pat your tattoo. Let the skin peel by itself. If you try to pull any pieces that appear loose, you may end up pulling out color. Usually most peeling will occur in or just after a shower. Please be careful and pat your tattoo dry. Don't rub it with a towel or washcloth.
Absolutely no swimming, soaking the tattoo in hot tubs/baths, or direct sunlight for at least two weeks.
If you don't want to pay for a touchup, take care of it and heal it right. After all, it's only two weeks.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call 225-291-0095.
